چکیده

where d(xi) is a vector of explanatory variables with associated vectors of regression coefficients β. A plot of the logit-transformed prevalence against elevation, shows a positive association up to about 2000 meters and negative thereafter (Figure 2). For this reason elevation was included in the model using a quadratic polynomial. The spatial random effects S(x) can be interpreted as the cumulative effect of unmeasured risk factors for podoconiosis. Finally, the unstructured random effects Z(x) represents extra-binomial variation within villages.

Estimating the number of cases of podoconiosis in Ethiopia using geostatistical methods

BACKGROUND In 2011, the World Health Organization recognized podoconiosis as one of the neglected tropical diseases. Nonetheless, the number of people with podoconiosis and the geographical distribution of the disease is poorly understood. Based on a nationwide mapping survey and geostatistical modelling, we predict the prevalence of podoconiosis and estimate the number of cases across Ethiopia...

The impact of podoconiosis on quality of life in Northern Ethiopia

BACKGROUND Podoconiosis is one of the most neglected tropical diseases, which untreated, causes considerable physical disability and stigma for affected individuals. Spatial Distribution of Podoconiosis in Relation to Environmental Factors in Ethiopia: A Historical Review

BACKGROUND An up-to-date and reliable map of podoconiosis is needed to design geographically targeted and cost-effective intervention in Ethiopia. Identifying the ecological correlates of the distribution of podoconiosis is the first step for distribution and risk maps. The objective of this study was to investigate the spatial distribution and ecological correlates of podoconiosis using histor...
